You probably know about common government assistance programs like Medicaid and SNAP but did you know that if you are enrolled in these programs then you probably also qualify for a free government cell phone?
The Lifeline Assistance program provides free phones and cheap or free usage plans to Americans who already receive certain benefits from the government or have an income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines.

If you participate in one of these programs then it is easy to find out if you qualify for a free phone from the government. All you have to do is show proof that you are enrolled in government assistance by providing a card, letter, or official document on your application on the Lifeline Assistance website.
If you believe that your income is at or less than 135% of the federal poverty guidelines then you can apply for Lifeline Assistance by showing proof of income such as pay stubs or tax returns.
